SPECIAL CONTAINMENT PROCEDURES
The seven manuscript pages comprising SCP-7312 are stored individually within laminated titanium frames sealed with Class IV inert gas (argon) inside Hermetic Document Vault HV-3 at Site-77. Vault conditions are maintained at 12°C and 35% relative humidity. Illumination is restricted to low-emission LED panels calibrated to prevent photochemical degradation of the rag paper substrate.
All personnel assigned to SCP-7312 are prohibited from possessing auditory playback or recording equipment within the Site-77 perimeter. Sight-reading of the manuscripts is permitted only for researchers holding Level 4 clearance or above, and exclusively through reinforced glass panels with double-lock access protocols. Photographic reproduction is forbidden; all analytical imaging must be performed via non-optical spectroscopic methods. Any personnel who have been exposed to three or more seconds of a live performance of SCP-7312 are to be quarantined in Psychiatric Ward C for no fewer than 72 hours and administered a structured psychological interview using Protocol P-7312.
DESCRIPTION
SCP-7312 designates a collection of seven handwritten musical manuscripts recovered on 14 March 1987 from the estate of Romanian composer Theodor Moise Vraciu (1891–1984) following his death in Turda, Cluj County. The manuscripts are composed in standard Western staff notation on aged rag paper and are dated internally between November 1941 and September 1953. The cycle is scored uniformly for solo piano. On superficial examination, the compositions are stylistically consistent with late Romanian Romanticism and bear no anomalous markings visible to the unaided eye.
Fourier spectral analysis conducted by Dr. Ileana Costescu (Site-77 Department of Anomalous Acoustics) in 1990 revealed the systematic embedding of infrasonic frequencies at 18.98 Hz (±0.03 Hz) throughout the harmonic architecture of all seven movements. This frequency is imperceptible to unaugmented human hearing but measurable via sensitive accelerometric instrumentation. The origin and mechanism of this embedding remain undetermined; no conventional method of inscribing infrasonic information into standard musical notation has been identified. When movements one through seven are performed consecutively in order, every individual within an estimated 40-meter radius under standard atmospheric pressure undergoes an involuntary audiovisual experience lasting precisely 11 seconds (σ = 0.4 seconds across all documented cases). Subjects uniformly describe this experience as a complete and photorealistic depiction of the circumstances of their own death. The hallucination engages all sensory modalities including proprioception and is consistently reported as subjectively indistinguishable from reality. The specific content of each subject’s hallucination is unique to that individual and remains constant across repeated exposures, suggesting that SCP-7312 does not generate stochastic imagery but rather accesses or transmits a fixed future event. Cross-referencing of hallucinated death circumstances with confirmed subject mortality data is an active area of research (see Addendum 7312-B).
Psychological sequelae of exposure are significant. Approximately 78% of exposed subjects develop clinically significant thanatophobia within six weeks of exposure. In three documented cases (D-7312-001, D-7312-006, and civilian subject Vraciu-Alpha), involuntary cardiac arrest occurred within 11 seconds of the hallucination’s onset. Autopsies were inconclusive as to mechanism. The Foundation’s Department of Temporal Anomalies has classified SCP-7312’s predictive capacity as Type-II Deterministic Precognition pending further analysis.
BACKGROUND & ORIGIN
Theodor Moise Vraciu was a minor figure in Romanian academic music, employed as a conservatory instructor in Cluj-Napoca between 1922 and 1947. No anomalous activity was associated with his person during his lifetime. Foundation archival research has established that Vraciu composed the seven movements of SCP-7312 during World War II and the immediate postwar period, during which he is documented to have participated in a private esoteric study circle in Turda known informally as the Cercul Sunetelor Interzise (Circle of Forbidden Sounds). ◆ INCIDENT LOG — SCP-7312
INCIDENT 7312-ALPHA — 14 March 1987: Initial discovery. Estate executor Mirela Popa engaged local music historian Dr. Florin Antonescu to catalogue manuscripts. Antonescu performed movements 1–3 at an upright piano in the estate parlour; four witnesses present. All five individuals (including Popa) reported hallucinations upon questioning by local authorities. Foundation embedded agent (cover identity: Inspector D. INCIDENT 7312-BETA — 22 August 1989: Researcher M. Tănase (Site-77, Level 2) reconstructed movement 1 from memory and performed it on a piano in the Site recreation room. Three additional staff members were exposed. Tănase was placed on indefinite administrative suspension and subsequently transferred to Site-19 under enhanced monitoring. All three exposed staff members declined to disclose the content of their hallucinations.
INCIDENT 7312-GAMMA — 5 January 2003: Controlled D-class exposure trial authorized by Site Director V. Popescu. Seven D-class subjects (D-7312-003 through D-7312-009) were exposed to a complete performance conducted by remote-controlled mechanical piano actuator. All seven reported hallucinations. One subject (D-7312-006) suffered cardiac arrest during the 11-second experience and was not revived. Correlation study of remaining subjects’ hallucinated death scenarios with their eventual actual deaths is ongoing (last update: Research Brief IRB-7312-F, 2024).
INCIDENT 7312-DELTA — 11 October 2019: Foundation seismological monitoring systems at Site-77 recorded an anomalous infrasonic emission at 18.98 Hz originating from within Hermetic Vault HV-3. No personnel were present in the vault at the time; the containment seals were verified intact. Source of the emission was not determined. The vault was sealed under elevated containment protocols and reclassification to Keter was formally proposed. Following 90-day observation with no further anomalous events, the Keter proposal was withdrawn and Euclid classification was reinstated.
